This year, our organization had the privilege of sending two of our esteemed members, Brooke Phillips (Chairman) and Dom Tristani (Treasurer), to the annual Ducks Unlimited Third Term in Memphis, TN. This event is renowned for its focus on conservation, leadership, and fundraising, offering a wealth of knowledge and inspiration to those dedicated to these causes. Brooke and Dom returned with invaluable insights and experiences that they are eager to share with our community.
Leadership was a key theme at the Ducks Unlimited Third Term. Brooke and Dom attended several leadership workshops that emphasized the importance of adaptive leadership in conservation efforts. The concept of adaptive leadership, which involves being flexible and responsive to changing circumstances, was a significant takeaway. In conservation work, conditions can change rapidly, and having the ability to adapt is crucial for success. Additionally, the importance of communication and team-building was underscored. Effective leadership in conservation requires bringing together diverse groups of people and ensuring that everyone is working towards the same goals.
Fundraising is an essential aspect of any conservation effort, and Brooke and Dom were eager to learn new techniques to support our organization's initiatives. They attended sessions on innovative fundraising strategies, including social media, alumni outreach, and donor engagement.

In addition to the valuable learning experiences, Brooke and Dom made many friends with members from other chapters, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. These connections are invaluable for future collaborations and support. Not only did they make friends, but they got to meet and shake hands with many higher-ups including Bob Spoerl, the president of Ducks Unlimited.

They also had the unique opportunity to visit the Ducks Unlimited headquarters, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at the organization’s operations and strategies. A visit to the Bass Pro Pyramid was another highlight. Dive Bomb Industries, Alps Outdoors, Turtle Box, and Coors all sponsored the event to help make it possible.

Brooke and Dom's experience at the Ducks Unlimited Third Term was phenomenal. They returned with a wealth of knowledge and a renewed passion for our mission. The insights they gained in conservation, leadership, and fundraising will undoubtedly benefit our organization and help us achieve our goals. We are excited to implement these new strategies and continue our efforts to make a positive impact on the environment.
